I started band at the beginning of September, and got my instrument about 2 and a half weeks ago. We're learning how to read notes now and it's kind of like learning a new language. I'm getting okay at reading notes, but I'm not great. I mix up the F and G notes a lot. 8(

oye good luck!! i play guitar and if you decide to stay in band youll become better at reading notes eventually!! a tip i still use for when im not sure what note it is is to not memorize them fully, instead as

mi, sol, si, re, fa

fa, la, do, mi, sol

and just skip the lines/spaces when you need to find a notE!! however, this doesnt help much in the long run,, so use wisely

When it comes to memorizing notes and stuff, treble clef spaces spell "FACE" from bottom to top. The Lines are "EGBDF", from bottom to top, and can be remembered by "Every Good Boy Does Fine" At least that's how I was taught

OMG I'M GETTING A CLARINET FOR INSTRUMENTAL TOOO!!!! I'm getting it on Friday. I've already got my mouth piece and cork grease, though. I'M SUPER EXCITED!!!!

@Relora oh I remember the notes like E is first line G is second line B is third, F is first space A is second space and D is the note below the first line.

We just got our instruments now, my instrumental teacher made sure we all were experts on reading notes before getting our instruments.

cool my school has a band program thats for grade 4/5 im going in it this year but im playing flute i got mine about a week ago but you can play other instruments too
here is the list of instruments you can play:
trumpet 
clarinet
flute
saxophone
baritone ( look it up )
base sax  ( look it up )
its pretty cool and everybody whether its trumpet or flute is going to learn to play hot cross buns i cant imagine the  trumpets doing it lol and again congrats! ( sorry if i seem self centered i dont mean  it! )

I'm surprised there isn't a trombone or tuba, where the low brass at QWQ

Oh and I think you mean baritone (Bari) sax... if your school has a bass sax... oh I would love to transfer there xD

my school is poor so we have to share instruments with the other class sometimes and we only have 2 saxophones because they costed $950 each LOOOL

We don't know Hot Cross Buns yet. I think we learn another note before doing it.
For beginner band we can choose between flute, clarinet/base clarinet, alto/tenor sax, baritone, trumpet, and we can play the guitar or drums if we have one year band experience.
Our band teacher suggests that we rent from a company called Sight and Sound, because once your rent adds up to the price of the instrument you can keep it.

I have a clarninet. I have had it for 4 years. My parents say that I have improved and that I play good. We play pop songs in our band (old and new).
I learned how to play the theme songs for Family Guy, American Dad, and Law and Order by my self.

My clarinet costed $1025.90. LOL.

uwu i play flute too!! it's a really pretty instrument, especially in the middle E-A range. it's pretty hard at first; you need a lot of air. but once you get used to it it's so much fun!!!

@elliot omg you're going to love band! i do!! all the kids are p cool and i've made some really good friends in there. plus performances are always super fun! i don't know a lot of techniques for playing clarinet, but i do know clarinets sound best when they're tongued properly.

as for the notes, you'll get the hang of it eventually. when i was learning music, i always got middle G and high B confused. also middle D and B we're pretty tricky, but once you have the notes memorized it's a lot easier! good luck with band!!

Oh for sax it doesn't need a new note. At my school we have sax, clarinet, trumpet, percussion, trombone, and some others which I forgot. Oh and flute.

Oh that's super cool! I've been playing clarinet for 5 years! Keep at it!
